Harmful algal blooms
I am particularly focused on monitoring harmful algal blooms in Baja California using satellite remote sensing. During my PhD, I developed algorithms of ocean color parameter using satellite data and in-situ measurements (suspended particulate matter, oil spills, and red tides) and established a quality-control process (speckle removal process, high-quality composite data) for satellite data. Using ocean color data, I detected physical oceanic phenomena (currents, tidal currents, dispersion of oceanic parameter) and studied bio-geophysical mechanisms in coastal areas related to red tide blooms, oil spill dispersion, suspended particulate matter, and air-sea interaction.
